Cape Cod 2013

The kids learned about migration this year during their day camp at the Audubon sanctuary. Once Rachel understood what it meant she said, "Mommy, we migrate to Cape Cod and Maine every year!". We had a wonderful time on our annual migration back east, lots of sunshine and warm weather this year which made for great swimming.

Grandad, will you swing us on the hammock?
Some serious bird watching.
Digging in the driveway.
Playing with new stuffed animals.

This year the kids were interested in earning their Junior Ranger badges. They had to visit a historical site and a natural site and take notes at each one. They also had to pick 5 activities to complete in the Junior Ranger booklet. We brought the booklets back to the visitor center and they each got a badge. The ranger also announced the new junior rangers over the loud speaker and most people stopped to applaud them. They were very proud :)

After their junior ranger accomplishment we decided it was time to celebrate at Ben & Jerry's. We had made a bet with Daddy that we couldn't finish a mini-Vermonster (a large sundae with lots of toppings, served in a bucket). At first the kids thought they would have no problem finishing and they dove right in. But half-way through they started to slow down so Mom had to help out a bit. At the end of it all we had almost cleaned the bucket!

After 3 years of swimming lessons and constant coercion to try to get Carson into the water, it was music to my ears to hear him say for the first time this year, "Mommy, you're right, swimming is fun!". Slough Pond was a welcome oasis almost every day, what a beautiful spot.

Rachel discovered some blackberry bushes!

One evening it cooled off so we headed to a park to let the kids run around. Grandad had fun pushing the kids on the tire swing.

We went to see the life-saving demonstration again this year, preceded as usual with a visit to Moby Dick's. What a great place - delicious seafood, a great kids menu, and things to play on in the parking lot!
