Deb and Jonathan Tie the Knot

In September Rachel and I flew to Missouri for Deb and Jonathan's wedding! The night before the wedding the families gathered at a beautiful park to enjoy some delicious food and get to know each other a little bit.

What a glorious day for an outdoor wedding - sunny and high 70's. They chose to have their Quaker wedding on a farm. Since the farm isn't equipped to seat such a large crowd, Jonathan crafted some beautiful rustic benches just for the occasion.

Deb's dress was handmade by a friend of hers.

Flower girls Rachel and Shivani did a great job kicking off the ceremony. Rachel started by walking around the circle and spreading dried rose petals all around. Shivani was happy to copy her big cousin. Rachel told me later, "I got flowers on everyone."

Deb's friend sang a beautiful version of The Wedding Song, accompanied by a guitar.

During a Quaker wedding ceremony the bride and groom get up and say their vows to each other when they feel moved to do so. Afterwards, anyone is invited to stand up and say something - either a blessing or a story, or anything they want to share. Other than the impromptu speaking, the ceremony is silent.

The Quaker marriage certificate is signed by all who attend the wedding, all witnesses to the union.
